With these last few days of summer approaching, I am so ready for autumn; I have been trying to fit in as many summer recipes as possible. I am sure once this heat is gone I will start to miss it; but while I may be ready for autumn, the market is still packed with fresh summer ingredients.
The bold, plump blackberries are so beautiful that I had to do something with them. I have been refraining from using the oven lately; the thought of turning on my oven in this 95°F heat is just something I cannot handle. I live on the beach inCalifornia… we are not supposed to have weather like this! So fighting my autumn cooking urges for pies and sweets, I decided to make something cool and refreshing to beat these last few weeks of summer heat.
BLACKBERRY GINGER + ELEDERFLOWER COOLER
6 Blackberries, fresh
4 Mint Leaves, fresh
2 ounces of Vodka
1 ounce of St. Germain
½ ounce of Grand Marnier
A Pinch Ginger, freshly ground
1 Teaspoon of Agave Nectar
Using a cocktail shaker or a tall glass, muddle the mint leaves and ginger. Combine the berries and muddle once more to thoroughly mix the three ingredients.
Pour the vodka,St.Germain, Grand Marnier, and agave nectar over the mixture. Add ice and shake vigorously. Filling a glass with ice, pour the cocktail into the glass. Top off the glass with the club soda and garnish.
